A communication board (AAC) is designed to help children communicate and express themselves easily and fun while spending time at the playground.

How to use it in practice:

The principle is simple:
Point to pictures to express a desire, need, or feeling.

1. Voters and voters 👆
The boy or girl looks at the board and points to what they want or feel at this moment:

😊 “I am happy!”

❌ “I don’t want to”

⚽ “Football”

“slide”

🍎 “Eat”

🚽 “To the toilet”

2. Construct short sentences
It is possible (and advisable!) to combine several symbols together to create a complete idea:

“I want” + “swing”

“I don’t want to” + “go”

“With Dad” / “With Mom”

3. Sharing feelings
The smileys that appear on the board help the children explain to us exactly what they are going through:

Happy | Sad | Angry

4. Directions and actions
At the bottom of the board you will find useful arrows and symbols:

➡️ Arrows: To show where you are going or where to turn.

❓ Question mark: To express lack of understanding or to ask questions (“What is this?”)

❤️ Heart: To express love or something you really, really want.

✋ Stop sign: To say “I don’t want to” or “Let’s stop for a moment.”

5. So how do we, the adults, respond? (The important part!)

*Looking: Pay attention to what the child is pointing at.

* Reflect aloud: Say the word they chose out loud and clearly (e.g., “Do you want a slide?” ). This helps them make the connection between the symbol and the spoken word.

*Work together: Respond according to the message conveyed and work together with the child to carry out the selected activity.
